Revolutionizing Quote Processing: From Nightly Batches to Real-Time Efficiency on AWS Cloud

Collaborated and led a groundbreaking initiative to modernize our quote processing system, transitioning from a nightly batch process to a near-real-time API architecture hosted on the AWS cloud. This initiative was driven by the need to address critical inefficiencies and delays in quote visibility for our internal Member Service Representatives (MSRs), ensuring timely and accurate responses to customer inquiries. In architecting the design, we evaluated various options, including Kafka, before ultimately deciding to leverage AWS cloud resources to accommodate the evolving needs of our division. We opted to split the API into two separate components, utilizing Terraform and GoLang for the AWS portion and adopting API-First development with Java in SpringBoot for the on-premise segment. This decision was driven by considerations related to data privacy and compliance, particularly regarding the handling of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data. The AWS portion of the API, managed by AWS API Gateway, featured two Lambdas developed in GoLang. The first Lambda performed basic payload validation and data manipulation before forwarding the payload to SQS, where the second Lambda retrieved the data and seamlessly integrated it with the on-premise portion of the API. Meanwhile, the on-premise API retrieved PII data from the vendor and mapped it to existing API definitions for integration with Salesforce, streamlining our quote processing workflow. This modernization effort resulted in a significant improvement in quote processing times, with MSRs gaining real-time visibility into new quotes received from external vendors. The implementation of the near-real-time API architecture not only enhanced operational efficiency but also improved overall customer satisfaction. Our team was also the first in our division to release a product to the cloud, demonstrating our commitment to innovation and agility in adapting to emerging technologies. Moving forward, we are committed to leveraging this innovative solution to drive continuous improvements and deliver exceptional value to our customers.
Cloud-Driven Modernization of Insurance Quote Prefill Process

Led the comprehensive modernization of the insurance quote external vendor prefill URL process, orchestrating the transformation of the Member Service Portal utilizing advanced technologies and architectural enhancements. Leveraging React/Redux, we revitalized the portal's frontend interface, ensuring seamless user experience and efficient data handling. The strategic shift involved relocating intricate business logic to the AWS cloud infrastructure, underscoring our commitment to scalability, reliability, and performance optimization. Within the AWS ecosystem, we orchestrated a sophisticated orchestration leveraging cutting-edge components including async API Gateway, a priming lambda function that handled numerous API calls to both internal and external APIs, ElastiCache to keep track of the priming lambda's progress, and a polling lambda function responsible for querying ElastiCache for the priming lambda's status and returning the generated URL from the external vendor. This resulted in a meticulous, robust and resilient framework to handle the intricacies of the quote prefill URL process. This modernization initiative not only streamlined the quote prefill URL process but also significantly bolstered the portal's capabilities, enhancing its responsiveness, scalability, and overall performance. By adopting an agile and forward-thinking approach, we successfully aligned technological advancements with business objectives, ultimately empowering our team to deliver value-driven solutions to our stakeholders. Furthermore, this project exemplifies our commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, showcasing our proficiency in leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to drive tangible business outcomes.
